MURPHY’S MONDAY MANUFACTURER – (January 11, 2016) – Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that Putnam Plastics of Dayville is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Founded in 1984, Putnam Plastics is a family-owned developer and manufacturer of tubing, catheters, and other assemblies for the medical device industry. With the help of more than 240 highly-skilled engineers, machinists, and other administrative experts, Putnam Plastics uses extrusion, laser machining, tipping, welding, and printing, among several other techniques, to produce the most advanced, minimally invasive catheters and other medical devices in the industry. The company, which has been located in Northeast Connecticut since its inception, serves a variety of customers worldwide, ranging from small start-ups to some of the most well-known medical device companies.
In the last five years, Putnam Plastics has added over 60 new jobs and completed construction of their brand new 92,000 square foot manufacturing headquarters in Dayville. The company operates out of two facilities in Dayville, which span a total of 130,000 square feet of manufacturing space. Putnam Plastics offers each of their employees and their employees’ family members a comprehensive health and wellness program, which includes access to a 6,000 square foot onsite corporate gym and a dedicated wellness coordinator. The manufacturer takes great pride in their local community, and supports organizations such as Day Kimball Hospital and the new regional YMCA in Putnam, Connecticut. The manufacturer also partners with Quinebaug Valley Community College (QVCC) to hire QVCC’s College of Technology graduates and helps sponsor the school’s new Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center, which is set to be completed in the summer of 2016.

The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,602 manufacturers account for 10.2% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
